Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is Thailand’s leading state-owned power utility under the Ministry of Energy, responsible for electricity generation and transmission as well as bulk electric energy sales. We own and operate different types of power plants that are located across the country with a total installed capacity of 15,763.83 MW (as of September 2018). We also control a high voltage transmission network whose length is 34,127.462 circuit-kilometers long (as of September 2018), covering all parts of the country.
Under Thailand’s electricity supply industry, EGAT purchases bulk electricity from private power producers and neighboring countries and sells wholesale electric energy to two distributing authorities, namely Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), a small number of direct industrial customers as well as neighboring utilities.
EGAT also engages in energy-related services businesses and expands, through the EGAT Group, our business and investment in electricity and other energy-related businesses at home and abroad.
EGAT’s vision is to “Innovate Power Solutions for a Better Life.” We also commit ourselves to be the country’s main organization to secure the power reliability and enhance competitiveness of the nation through innovation for Thai happiness.
For almost 50 years since the date of EGAT’s establishment on May 1, 1969, we have continued strengthening the energy system to meet the rising power demand in parallel with environmental management. Modern innovation has been applied in the development of electricity business of Thailand to bring the country to stability for the happiness of all Thais.
