The invitation-only Leadership Roundtables will act as an important cornerstone of Future Energy Asia's programme. Gathering Ministers, C-level industry executives, and policymakers for closed-door conversations that will address the greatest global energy issues from an Asian perspective, and generate the thought leadership and insight required drive real progress towards net-zero. The Leadership Roundtables will be held under the Chatham House Rule in order to facilitate open conversation and information sharing, and to enable networking and open doors to relationship building.
ABOUT THE ROUNDTABLE:
As the world grapples with the urgent need to mitigate the impacts of climate change, the development and deployment of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies have gained significant attention across the energy sector. CCS technologies have the potential to play a crucial role in achieving global decarbonisation targets, particularly in the Asia Pacific region, which is characterised by rapid economic growth, increasing energy demand, and a diverse energy mix that includes gas, LNG, hydrogen, renewables, and conventional power generation sources.
Recent industry trends suggest a growing interest in CCS developments, with numerous pilot projects and commercial-scale facilities being commissioned worldwide. These case studies provide valuable insights into the technical, economic, and regulatory aspects of CCS implementation, offering lessons for the Asia Pacific region as it explores ways to accelerate CCS deployment across its energy sectors.
Opportunities for CCS in the Asia Pacific region are vast, with potential applications spanning gas and LNG processing, hydrogen production, renewable energy integration, and power generation and distribution. By incorporating CCS technologies into these sectors, the region can reduce its carbon emissions, enhance energy security, and support its transition towards a low-carbon future.
However, challenges to CCS deployment in the Asia Pacific region must be addressed. These include the high costs of CCS technologies, the need for robust regulatory frameworks and financial incentives, and public acceptance of large-scale CO2 storage. To overcome these barriers, governments, industry stakeholders, and research institutions must collaborate to develop tailored CCS solutions, share knowledge, and best practices, and establish supportive policy environments.
